What can you expect?
Carbohydrates: When it’s comes to carbohydrates for a diabetic person, we suggest to avoid or restrict simple carbohydrates like, maida, rice, sweets, sabudana (javvarisi) etc. Instead you will be expected to take complex carbohydrates like, Wheat, fruits (along with skin), rice with veggies, wheat-based bread and noodles, salads etc. The goal is to delay the absorption.
Protein: The South Indian food that people are used to nowadays lack good source of protein. We recommend our patients to take good quality proteins like eggs, fish, lean meat, and chicken. Vegetarians can benefit from eating pulses, legumes, and soybeans, along with low fat cheese, curd, and paneer.
Fat: Healthier fat with Omega 3 and 6 is also necessary. Daily cooking oil itself is a good source of this but can also be obtained from unsalted nuts, fatty fish, and seeds.
In general it’s healthy for everyone to add more of Whole Grains, Green leafy vegetables, Nuts, Garlic, Cinnamon, Beans, Fatty fish, lean meat etc.
